What Can I Mix With Cottage Cheese for Baby
Several years ago I adopted Prince Albert, an older cat, and I am very thankful that I was able to give him a loving home.
Non-Fruit Additions to Cottage Cheese
Most of us have heard of cottage cheese with fruit, like peaches, but how many people enjoy cottage cheese with something salty, like green olives? I do! If you're a cottage cheese lover, I dare you to try the following cottage cheese mixers.
What to Mix Into Cottage Cheese
- Tomatoes and Pepper
- Saltine Crackers
- Green Olives
- Avocado
- Jalapeños or Pepper Rings
- Beans or Chili
1. Tomatoes and Pepper
Tomatoes, preferably straight from the garden, are my favorite food to mix with cottage cheese. Chop up the tomatoes, grind some pepper, and mix up with the cottage cheese. The flavors on the palate are absolutely divine. In the wintertime, go for grape or cherry tomatoes, which carry their flavor pretty well throughout the weather, even when other tomatoes don't. This mixture is, by far, my favorite.
2. Saltine Crackers
Saltine crackers, you ask? Yes, try it. Crumble up the crackers in your cottage cheese, and voila! The saltiness of the crackers is a delightful addition to the mix. I've even added in tomatoes with the crackers, as well, for a heartier meal. Yummy. I haven't tried other crackers—yet! But I do think that other crackers such as soda crackers or wheat thin type crackers would be tasty, too!
3. Green Olives
Dumping green olives into my cottage cheese was an experiment for me. I was looking for something to mix with my cottage cheese and spied a few green olives left in the jar. I emptied them in and tried a spoonful... another great discovery of what to mix with cottage cheese! Perhaps black olives would be tasty, too.

4. Avocado
Cut up a firm, ripe avocado and mix in with cottage cheese. Add ground cracked pepper. This is a yummy mixture if you like avocados!
5. Jalapeños or Pepper Rings
If you like hot stuff on the palate and are feeling brave, you might try some jalapeños or pepper rings to mix with your cottage cheese. They won't add many calories but will contribute quite a spicy flavor.
6. Beans or Chili
You may have already discovered how wonderful cottage cheese tastes with many types of beans. Eat them side by side or mix together. Warm beans—try pinto, black, chili, western, or ranch beans—complement the cool creaminess of the cottage cheese. A very soothing and comforting dish.
My dad and stepmother like cottage cheese with their chili. While I had always plopped sour cream on my chili, I had never thought of cottage cheese. Now I can't stop eating it that way. Chili and cottage cheese are a must-try combination.
What do you think about these combinations?
Bonus: An Unexpected Dessert Idea
Yes, you can add the ol' standbys of chopped pineapples, oranges, peaches, strawberries, and other fruits for your dessert-type cottage cheese. One combo I tried that might be considered unusual, but was absolutely amazing, was chocolate chips. Yes, chocoholics, drop some chocolate chips into your cottage cheese and indulge.
There are lots of options out there to mix with cottage cheese. All in all, I think all the recipes I've listed here are much better than the traditional fruity mixtures, but that's just my preference. For those of you who aren't crazy about mixing your fruit with cottage cheese, I'm sure you'll agree. Whatever you mix, be creative, and have fun with it. Cottage cheese is a pretty versatile food.
